How You Can Get Help from Swindon Foodbank

Swindon Foodbank provides help and assistance to those who are experiencing a crisis in their lives which in turn makes it very difficult to fund the everyday essentials of life; such as food.

We operate an “exchange” system whereby a client receives a voucher from one of the numerous support agencies in the borough and brings it to us at one of our 4 distribution centres to be exchanged for food.

We separate the access to the food (the giving of the voucher) from the giving of food in order to try and ensure that; not only is the need genuine but also that the client is engaged with an appropriate third party who may also be able to assist further in regard to the current crisis.

As examples: Providing that you have been a resident of Swindon for a minimum of six months, if you are experiencing benefit application/payment delays or have been sanctioned the SBC Emergency Assistance Fund Team may be the best place to help you as they are able to either offer you a supermarket shopping voucher or one of our vouchers. If debt is the cause of your crisis the Citizens Advice Bureau or Christians Against Poverty could be appropriate. If you are experiencing relationship difficulties that are placing immense pressure on the family perhaps the local Children’s Centre or Social Services.

Below you will find a list of many of the agencies who, historically, have provided the bulk of vouchers for exchange (however this is not an exhaustive list). Any voucher provided will be appropriate for your needs whether you are a single person, couple or family. The issuer will fill in the details on the voucher to enable us to give you the appropriate amount of food.

The food we will provide you with will be adequate for 3-4 days and it is possible to receive a succession of vouchers (usually) up to 3 and in exceptional circumstances beyond this number.

Once you have your voucher simply bring it to any of the distribution centres listed below. At the centres you will be greeted by trained volunteers who will treat you with kindness and understanding. They will offer you a hot drink and a chance to chat if you wish. They may even be able to signpost you to other agencies who may be able to help you further.

If at all possible please bring your own bags for us to pack the food into, although we do have a limited quantity of used supermarket carrier bags. Please be aware of the quantity and weight of food provided which may weigh up to 30 kg in regard to the provision for a couple with 4 children.

If you have any further questions that you cannot find the answers to here, or elsewhere on our website, or simply need some clarification we can also be contacted on: 07932 108732
