Cher Smith MBE has now joined the Swindon Foodbank Team as the new Project Manager. Cher was formerly the CEO at Threshold Housing Link, Swindon’s homeless charity, but following the death of her husband, Phil Smith, who was the Operations Director at THL, found it hard to return without him as her “wing man”. Cher said “I am starting a new chapter in my life and hard as it is to do this without Phil by my side, the opportunity that working at Swindon Foodbank will offer me is completely different to what I have been doing, so it really is a fresh start for me.”
Cher has worked in the charity sector for the past 31 years and so will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the existing team.
Cher said: "The challenge this year is to make Harvest bigger than last year. We are currently experieng low stock of long life juice and milk as well as tinned fruit, tomatoes, meat and meals so I want to make sure that this time next year we are not running out of food for those who so desperately need it.
I am planning on bringing new innovative ways of working with our clients so that they can use our food more effectively through basic recipes that we will develop using the contents of our boxes. This linked with some money management ideas will help people make the best use of the resources they have and hopefully feel more able to ask for help when it is needed to make their life and that of their families easier".
